Kate's Staff Pick

Kate, BPL’s Children’s Librarian, chose Bluey and Bingo's Fancy Restaurant Cookbook as this month’s staff pick. Geared towards ages 4-7, this juvenile cookbook is perfect for your little one – especially if they’re a fan of the popular children’s television show, Bluey. All thirteen recipes are printed on bright pages with fun illustrations of beloved Bluey characters. Some unique aspects of this cookbook that help make cooking more user-friendly to younger minds is the difficulty rating above each recipe, and the check boxes next to each ingredient. Kate promotes this book in her statement, “Wackadoo! Check out the fanciest cookbook in town brought to you by everyone's favorite canine siblings, Bluey and Bingo. Host your own fancy restaurant night and experience some of the tastes of Australia, from Fairy Bread to Fish and Chips, Bluey and Bingo guide you through how to make some of their favorite recipes”. BPL has a hard time keeping this book on the shelves because it is loved so dearly, and it’s clear that others feel the same; it has received glowing reviews on many credible sources. If you’re interested in checking out this title, it can be found under the call number, “J 641.5 Blu.” in the children’s department. We also have nearly 30 in-house Bluey materials, and dozens more online for the Bluey fans in your home!

Nerdy

Here at BPL, we really nerd out over a quirky cookbook, so what better title to feature this month, other than The Nerdy Nummies Cookbook: Sweet Treats for the Geek in All of Us by Rosanna Pansino. This cookbook was inspired by Pansino's incredibly popular baking show – Nerdy Nummies, which premiered in 2011. Pansino’s following exploded on YouTube, making her one of the most-watched Youtubers. Nerdy Nummies is her first cookbook, but in 2018, she released another titled, Baking All Year Round: Holidays & Special Occasions. Nerdy Nummies is divided into 6 different chapters: Math & Science, Space, Fantasy & Sci-Fi, Gaming, Tech & Web, and Geeky Treats. It also has many wonderful tools such as tips/techniques, how-tos, templates, resource guides, conversion charts, and much more. Quirky photoshoots, and unique photography really capture how yummy all of these treats are! Amazon’s description of this book states, “Her fondness for video games, science fiction, math, comics, and lots of other things considered “nerdy” have inspired every recipe in this book. You’ll find the recipes for many beloved fan favorites from the show, such as Apple Pi Pie, the Chocolate Chip Smart Cookie, and Volcano Cake; as well as many new geeky recipes, such as Dinosaur Fossil Cake, Moon Phase Macarons, and the Periodic Table of Cupcakes”. If you’re hosting an event that could use some themed snacks or desserts, this book couldn’t be more perfect! For treats that all ages will eat up (literally!), find this title under the call number “641.865 Pan” in the Adult Department.
